Welcome to Dolphins

Thursday 12th September 2024

Dear parents/carers,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a great summer break and are ready for the new school year. I am very excited to work with you and your children this school year.

As having parental support and open communication is an essential part of a successful school year, I will be continuing to use Class Dojo to keep you up to date with what we are doing in class. Wholeschool information will continue to be posted on the main school Dojo page. If you do not have access to Dojo yet please let the school know and we can get a code to you. Google classroom will also continue to be used for class and home learning.

Curriculum

Maths begins looking at place value of numbers - work to support this will be posted on Google Classroom. Daily counting and timetable practice is an important part of your child’s development. Please encourage your child to engage in TT Rock Stars and alternative activities to support their learning.

For geography, history, reading and English, we continue to use the CUSP curriculum introduced last year. Our first reading book will be Greta and the Giants, focusing on Climate Change and how we can help our environment. We will look at two further books this half term: The Pebble in my Pocket and Leon and the Place Inbetween. Please continue with daily reading with your child to support their learning.

Our English curriculum will cover a vast range of topics this half-term. We start by focusing on our key sentence composition skills before looking at thematic poetry, first person narratives and non-chronological reports. To support and stretch, spellings inline with the learning that week will be sent home for the children to practise with you. There will be a quiz each week on these!

For our first topic, we will begin the year looking at prehistoric history, exploring the Stone Age through to the Iron age. This will be linked with our guided reading texts as well as our science topic: Archaeology. The children will explore different types of rocks and their uses as well as fossil formation. We will also look at the human skeleton and teeth!

For more information on the curriculum, please visit our class page on the website!

General information

Our free bagel and book club begins promptly at 8.30.

The gate will open at 8.40 and the school day begins at 8.45. Gates will be shut at 8.55.

Full school uniform must be worn, including a school jumper or cardigan with our logo and black shoes. On PE days, full PE kit is to be worn to school. Long hair must be tied up.

Please ensure that your child comes to school with a water bottle and warm waterproof coat every day. Don’t forget to label all items!

As your child is now in Key Stage 2, they can bring in a piece of fruit to eat at morning breaktime as they are no longer entitled to the free fruit which is offered in Reception and Key Stage One. We do encourage you to send some fruit for them to eat as the morning is quite long for them without a snack!

At the beginning of the day, please bring your child to the side door to drop off.

At the end of the day, please wait outside the front school gate for your child. If you have a child in KS1 please collect them first and I will stay with your child at the main gates until you come to pick them up.
